Drawing birds in the 70s was a real challenge for me. I was a born bird watcher from a family of bird lovers. Doing only birds of prey for several years in pencil taught me the skill I needed to move into painting them in watercolor and oils. I studied birds’ anatomy and learned how many primary and secondary feathers are on a Bald Eagle, for example.
